Born and raised in the "schelde" city Terneuzen, navigation is in Richard's blood. In his parental house a scanner was used to see what navigation came by. When an interesting ship came in view, Richard and his father left for the sea dyke.

Getting older, he went out on his own (if he had the chance) to be found near the tugboats of Union. Here they soon got to know 'the kid who's always hanging round the landing places" and took him on their 'trips'. That is when Richard's love for sailing came into being.

At the age of sixteen he decided to go sailing. This was to his parents great dissatisfaction: "Learn a trade first". He started with the coastal navigation, over the years this took him to countries such as England, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland. His scrapbooks are full and there are too many stories to tell.
Richard with on his background the tug Fighter on her last voyage with the casco of the Island Valliant.

Getting even older he got married and decided to stay on shore with his wife and kids. A trade - to his parents great relief… - was learned after all, and so Richard leads the life of a real 'landlubber'. Though, navigation never let him go. Still he takes off every weekend and spare hour to "shoot some good pictures".

Interest on navigation is world-wide, therefore Richard decided to set up a website. So he can share his enormous database of photos with you. Each photo is taken by himself, unless mentioned differently.
